Local SEO playbook: gym
How we plan local SEO for a gym that wants more walk-ins and trial sign-ups from people nearby.
Example approach. This page shows how we typically plan this kind of project. It is not a specific client’s story, and the figures we track depend on your business.
How we plan local SEO for a gym that wants more walk-ins and trial sign-ups from people nearby.
The situation
A gym has a Google Business Profile with old photos, a few reviews and wrong opening hours. People nearby search “gym near me”, but two newer gyms appear first on the map.
Common challenges
- Opening hours and services on the profile are out of date.
- Few recent reviews, and no replies to older ones.
- No photos of the current equipment or classes.
- The website does not mention the area or nearby landmarks.
Our approach, step by step
- Fix the profile. Correct hours, categories, services such as personal training and classes, and add a booking link
- Upload real photos. Equipment, classes, trainers and the entrance, so people recognise the place
- Post weekly. Class schedules, transformation stories shared with permission, and trial offers
- Ask members for reviews. A QR code at the front desk and a WhatsApp message after the first week
- Reply to every review. Thank-you replies and calm, helpful answers to complaints
- Add local pages. A page on the website mentioning the area and nearby landmarks
- Match listings. Same details on Justdial and fitness directories
What we track
- Calls and direction requests from the profile
- Map ranking for “gym near me” in nearby areas
- Number and rating of reviews
- Trial sign-ups from Google
What you get every month
- Posts published and photos added
- Calls, directions and reviews compared with last month
- Next month’s plan
What to expect, and when
Profile fixes often show results within a few weeks. Moving up against established competitors in the map usually takes a few months of steady activity.
