Google Ads Budget for Small Business in India (2026 Guide)
“How much should I spend on Google Ads?” is the first question almost every business owner asks us, and the honest answer is: it depends on what a customer is worth to you. There is no magic number, but there is a simple way to work out a Google Ads budget for a small business that makes sense for your industry, your city and your goals. This guide walks you through it step by step, with real ranges for Indian businesses and the mistakes that waste money.
Why there is no single “right” Google Ads budget
Google Ads is an auction. Every time someone searches for “dentist near me” or “Kashmir tour package”, advertisers compete for that click. The price you pay depends on how many businesses are bidding, how relevant your ad is and how good your landing page is. That is why a click can cost ₹8 for one business and ₹250 for another.
Three things decide how much you need to spend:
- Your cost per click (CPC): what one visitor from Google costs you in your industry and location.
- Your conversion rate: how many of those visitors call, fill a form or message you on WhatsApp.
- Your customer value: how much one new customer is worth to you over time, not just on the first sale.
Once you know these three numbers, the budget almost calculates itself.
Step 1: Know what a customer is worth to you
Start with the money, not with Google. Ask yourself: if one new customer comes from an ad, how much profit do they bring in a year? A dental clinic might earn ₹15,000 from one implant patient. A travel agency might earn ₹8,000 in margin from one tour package. A B2B manufacturer might earn lakhs from one distributor.
This number tells you how much you can afford to pay to get one customer. If a customer brings ₹10,000 in profit, paying ₹2,000 in ads to win them is a very good deal. Paying ₹12,000 is not.
Step 2: Estimate your cost per lead
A lead is an enquiry: a call, a form or a WhatsApp message. Not every lead becomes a customer, so you need two numbers:
- Cost per lead = Cost per click ÷ landing page conversion rate. If a click costs ₹40 and 1 in 10 visitors enquires (10%), each lead costs ₹400.
- Cost per customer = Cost per lead ÷ your closing rate. If you convert 1 in 4 leads into customers, each customer costs ₹1,600 in ads.
You can find typical CPCs for your keywords using the free Keyword Planner inside Google Ads. It is not perfect, but it gives you a realistic starting range.
Step 3: Work backwards from your goal
Now decide how many new customers you want each month. Multiply that by your cost per customer, and you have your monthly ad budget.
Example: a clinic wants 10 new patients a month. Each patient costs about ₹1,600 to acquire through ads. The monthly ad budget should be around ₹16,000. If each patient brings ₹15,000, the clinic spends ₹16,000 to earn ₹1,50,000. That is a campaign worth running.
Typical Google Ads budgets for small businesses in India
Every market is different, but these are the ranges we usually see when a campaign is set up properly:
| Business type | Typical monthly ad budget | What it usually covers |
|---|---|---|
| Local service (salon, clinic, repair, coaching) | ₹10,000 – ₹30,000 | One city or a few areas, high-intent “near me” searches |
| Travel, real estate, education | ₹25,000 – ₹75,000 | Competitive keywords and seasonal peaks |
| E-commerce and D2C brands | ₹30,000 – ₹1,50,000+ | Shopping and Performance Max campaigns with tracked sales |
| B2B and manufacturers | ₹20,000 – ₹60,000 | Specific product searches with fewer but larger enquiries |
If your budget is smaller than this, you can still advertise. You just need to be more focused: fewer keywords, a smaller area and only the hours when your customers search.
Don’t forget the cost of managing the ads
Your ad budget goes to Google. On top of that, someone has to set up the campaigns, write the ads, add negative keywords, track conversions and improve results every week. You can do this yourself if you have the time and know-how, or you can hire an agency. At Digisolvers, our Google Ads management fee is linked to your budget, and you always pay Google directly so you can see exactly where every rupee goes.
How to start without wasting money
Most small businesses lose money on Google Ads not because their budget is too small, but because it leaks. These steps stop the leaks:
- Start with exact and phrase match keywords. Broad match without care can show your ad for unrelated searches.
- Add negative keywords from day one. Words like “free”, “jobs”, “course” or “DIY” often bring the wrong visitors.
- Track every lead. Set up conversion tracking for calls, forms and WhatsApp clicks. Without it, you are guessing.
- Send people to a focused landing page, not your homepage. One offer, one form, a call button. A slow website can quietly double your cost per lead.
- Limit your area and schedule. Show ads only where you serve and when your team can answer the phone.
- Give it 4–6 weeks. The first two weeks are for learning. Judge results on cost per lead, not on clicks.
When to increase your Google Ads budget
Increase your budget when three things are true: your cost per lead is stable for a few weeks, your team can handle more enquiries, and Google shows that you are losing impressions because of budget (you can see this as “Search lost IS (budget)” in your campaign). Increase in steps of 20–30% so the campaign stays stable.
If your cost per lead is rising, more money will not fix it. Improve the ads, the keywords or the landing page first.
Google Ads vs SEO: should you do both?
Google Ads brings enquiries from day one, but they stop the moment you stop paying. SEO takes three to six months to show results, but the traffic keeps coming without paying per click. Most of our clients use ads for quick leads and SEO for long-term growth. If you serve a local area, start with the free basics too: a well-optimised Google Business Profile often brings calls without any ad spend. Frequently asked questions
Can I run Google Ads with ₹5,000 a month?
Yes, for a very local business with low competition. Keep it to a few exact keywords, a small radius and your working hours. Expect fewer leads, and focus on learning which keywords convert.
How soon will I see results?
Ads can start bringing enquiries within the first week. A well-optimised cost per lead usually takes four to eight weeks of testing and improvements.
Is Google Ads better than Facebook and Instagram ads?
Google Ads reaches people who are already searching for what you sell, so leads are often more ready to buy. Social ads are better for creating demand and brand awareness. We compare both in Instagram vs Facebook ads for local businesses.
